Dawn Media’s 2nd Breathe Pakistan International Climate Change Conference, held on the 6th and 7th of May, 2026 in Islamabad was a beacon of hope in an otherwise turbulent fight against climate change.
By bringing together policy makers, experts, activists, and ambassadors across all sectors affected by climate change, the Conference created an atmosphere of optimism. As spirited debates were had, accepted norms were challenged and innovative solutions were shared, the battle against climate change no longer seemed futile.
Throughout the Conference, emphasis was placed on adopting a more sustainable lifestyle through transport, energy usage and ethical consumption on an individual level. On a more macro level, most speakers reiterated that Pakistan already has strong laws and policies in place and that now is the time for efficient implementation.
Climate Finance Pakistan (CFP) is beyond proud to have served as a knowledge partner for Dawn Media in conducting such a groundbreaking event. CFP’s founder, Mekaeel Malik had the honor of serving as Master of Ceremonies (MC), ensuring the event flowed seamlessly as part of his hosting duties.
Additionally, CFP’s Sustainability Lead Dawar Hameed, moderated an enlightening panel discussion on‘Are Climate-Smart Cities Possible in the Developing World?’ The panel unpacked climate-related problems facing rapidly urbanizing developing countries, including how they need to cope with urban flooding and urban heat. Data-based planning and preservation of existing urban ecosystems were among the proposed solutions. Find the full discussion here.
In the lead up to the Conference, Malik hosted the TV program Last Call. Featuring several distinguished guests, including Justice (retd.) Mansoor Ali Shah, the series helped build awareness and lay the foundation for why climate resilience is one of the most pressing issues of our time, while highlighting those leading the charge in Pakistan.
